Spooktacular Books to Read in October

So my great options for books to read in October!

Raise your hand if you love October as much as I do?! Sure, I like pumpkins and pirate costumes and pretty leaves; all that jazz! But, what I really love is all things spooky and Halloween inspired! Here are some of my favorite books to read in October.

Books to Read in October

I have loved scary movies basically since birth, so a month full of them on tv makes my heart happy! I also love reading scary stories... where are my other 90s kids at?! Anyone else remember staying up late and scaring yourself by reading Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark?! Honestly, it takes a lot to truly terrify me and I would usually fall immediately to sleep. However, there are a few books that kept me up on occasion. I figured I would share some of my spooktacular favorite books to enjoy in October!

Spooky Stories to Read in October

Spooktacular Books to Read in October

- Wait Till Helen Comes-

You may notice that this is a children's book... don't let that fool you! This is the one book that kept me up when I read it. It's a haunting tale of 12 year old Molly, her younger brother Michael and their new stepsister, Heather. When Heather becomes friends with a ghost named Helen things as a newly joined family begin to take a turn for the worse.

- The Night Sister -

Honestly, anything by Jennifer McMahon is perfect for October. Some of her books have your everyday monsters, while others, such as The Night Sister are a little more sinister.

- IT -

I actually haven't read this yet, because I am honestly scared to read anything by Stephen King. IT was the only movie to truly scare me as a kid. I remember being at my grandma's house too terrified to sleep, even though I was in bed right next to her. The scary story lover in me though is itching to actually give one of his books a try and this will be the one I start with!

Psychological Thrillers to Read in October

- Into the Water -

With an eerie edge to it, Into the Water, begins with the drowning of a single mother. More deaths are linked to the spot she died and the individual stories twist and turn their way into the next, until you are left not knowing what to believe or who to trust.

- In a Dark, Dark Wood -

From the author of The Woman in Cabin 10, In a Dark, Dark Wood was Ruth Ware's first novel and also the first of her books that I read. The setting for In a Dark, Dark Wood will give you all the spooky feels that makes this the perfect read for October! I also just saw that it is in the works to become a movie!!

Books with Creepy Characters

Books to Read in October

Witches and Wizards and Vampires; oh my!! So, while I don't consider these to be overtly spooky or creepy, they have the perfect dose of characters for books to read in October!!

- Harry Potter -

It doesn't matter when it is- the middle of winter, or sitting on a beach mid-summer- Harry Potter is perfect anytime, but especially in October! I love seeing kids still donning Harry Potter themed costumes. The magic of Harry Potter will live on... ALWAYS (see what I did there?!)! My recommendation for would be to read the illustrated editions during October and add a little extra fun to prep for Halloween!

- Twilight -

Nothing like a good cast of vampires to get you in the Halloween spirit!!

- Beautiful Creatures -

I felt that Beautiful Creatures was very underrated; I really liked this series. It's probably not one I will read again, but it's worth the read once. It centers around a teen witch, who will soon be claimed for either the dark or light, and a mortal boy. The story has some dark elements to it, making it a great read for October.

- The Witches -

Another kids book, but what can I say?! Adults and kids alike can get into the spooky spirit with Roald Dahl and his cast of witches. Also a great family movie option for October!!

I love spooky books any time of the year, but October is perfect for them!

    1. Watch the original! It's the full story (they are doing the new one in two parts) and in my opinion creepier/better!

  8. These are some of the best books in the market. In particular, Harry Potter has broken the record of the most selling and largest red carpet awards. To a bookworm books mean an entire universe in their head along with the characters and their behaviors influence them a lot. Reading books has so many unspeakable benefits and is enjoyable indeed.
