#TravelTuesday 20 // A ROARing Safari in Nairobi National Park

Happy Travel Tuesday All!!
It's time for another #TravelTuesday Link Up!
Just add your post link, to the button at the bottom to join in on the fun.
I can't wait to see where you have been exploring this month.

We just had quite the adventure over here in Florida. We rode out Hurricane Irma, at home in Orlando, and thankfully didn't have too much damage! There was a lot of wind, blown transformers, no power until this morning and a small leak in the roof, but ultimately we were safe and sound. We spent yesterday clearing yards and spent a lot of time getting to know our neighbors better. It's been really nice seeing people come together to help one another!

Needless to say though, the lose of power left me without time to get much ready for this month's link up. It's also been a whirlwind the of a week since I got back from Africa last Sunday. So, I figured I would take today to share some of the pictures from our team's safari in Nariobi National Park! The last time I was in Kenya, over a year and a half ago, we went on Safari there too and had a blast, but missed getting to see lions. This time one of the first things we spotted was a pride of 12! It just goes to show that every Safari will be a new and exciting experience. It was an amazing morning!

Seeing Lions in Nairobi National Park

Here are some of the beautiful animals we saw...
Giraffes in Nairobi National Park

We entered the park towards the giraffes on the horizon, but it only took a few minutes for our awesome driver to get a call over the radio. He turned the van around and we were unsure of where we were headed, but excited for what we might see.

See that look?! There was no way we were getting any further down that road. Not with the lion cubs that she was trying to protect just feet away. She stopped and planter herself firmly in our path so that the other mama and all the sweet, cuddly babies had time to create a wide berth! It was so awesome to be so close, but I do recommend bringing a good zoom lens. I haven't been using my good camera much this last year and it felt SO NICE to put it to work again!

I think one of the most interesting parts of a safari in Nairobi, is how close the city is. You can see zebras and giraffes in the distance when you drive to the airport. There are so many spots where you can see an animal set against the city skyline and it just feels so very surreal. I love getting deeper into the park, away from the hustle and bustle that you know is so close, so that all you see are animals and wide open wild. It was another amazing safari and I loved getting to be in a van with these fun gals!!

Have you ever been on safari?
What wild fun have you been having lately?!

    1. It's so crazy how close! When they were constructing a nearby highway the lions found a whole in the fence and got out into the city.

  3. It is good to know that you were safe despite being hit by Irma. I saw the devastation on the news and it was so scary to watch the footage of damage. As for your safari adventure, that is so amazing. I've always wanted to go on a Safari adventure in Africa. That's definitely one item from my bucket list that I can't wait to check off!
